It's Walk to School Month! Do you / would you walk your children to school?

Ever noticed how much less traffic there is during the school holidays? This isn't surprising given that 43% of school children travel by car and just 48% walk.

This month is national walk to school month, and Mid Sussex District Council is fully supporting the campaign to help reduce carbon emissions and traffic, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle for children (and parents), and making school journeys more sociable. So, do your children walk to school? If not, why not?

If travelling by foot is just too far, cycling and public transport are encouraged. Even if you have to travel by car, is there the option of sharing with someone to reduce pollution and costs?

Does walking take too much time? Is there the option of taking it in turns to walk children to school with a neighbour? Or could you take it in turns to lead and supervise a walking school 'bus'?

If your children could potentially walk to school but don't, what are your reasons for this? Is there anything that would help as a community to increase the number of children who walk to school?
