The NHS Information Centre has just released statistics of our current drinking habits nationwide and the survey has also looked at regional alcohol consumption.

Do we drink too much?
So, has anything changed? According to the survey results, alcohol consumption overall has reduced - perhaps as a result of the economic recession. However, sadly the number of deaths from alcoholism is on the rise, as is the number of prescriptions written for medication to treat alcoholism.
In the South East of England, 67% of adults consume alcohol at least once a week, according to survey findings. Results also show that 17% of our South-East population drink at least five days a week. This latter result puts us only behind the South-West, drinking more frequently here than in most parts of the UK. Click here to see a full report, including all statistics.
So does alcohol consumption affect our community in Burgess Hill? Do you think prices of alcoholic beverages should be increased to deter people from binge drinking? Or should we all just relax a bit more and give the pubs a chance in the recession? Does Burgess Hill have a problem with drink as a community?
