Remembrance in Burgess Hill

'Lest we Forget' was carried through Lewes on Bonfire Night on Friday, with large poppies following closely behind, summing up the importance of remembrance. This Thursday is armistice day and at 11am a two minute silence is observed nationwide to remember those who have sacrificed for our country. Remembrance Sunday follows on from this on the 14th, where an additional two minute silence is observed.

Lest we Forget
In Burgess Hill, the council is gathering poppies from residents who choose to donate them to the 'People's Wreath'. You can give your poppy to the hosts at the Help Point on Church Walk, and the wreath will be laid on 11th November at the War Memorial. A small procession will take place this Thursday, starting at 10.50am at the Help Point, finishing at the War Memorial and all are welcome.
There is, completely unrelated to this remembrance parade, a concert at the All Saints United Reformed Church on Junction Road on Thursday afternoon. Doors open at 12.30 for a 1.10pm start and for some this may be a nice way to reflect and enjoy music afterwards.
The main parade and Remembrance Day Service will take place on Sunday 14th November and starts at Cyprus Hall, Cyprus Road, at 10.35am (meet 10.25am). A two minute silence will follow and wreaths will be laid at the war memorial. There will then be an opportunity to attend a Service of Remembrance in St John's Church. The Mid Sussex Brass Band will be playing in the town.
It is the Royal British Legion who safeguards the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or have served in our armed forces. This year, they hope to raise £36 million and help the 'Afghan generation' of the Armed Forces Family. By making a donation to the Poppy Appeal and wearing a poppy, you are helping them towards their aims.
