Monday is the first day of National Chip Week 2011 so if ever you needed an excuse to indulge in delicious English cuisine, there it is. And if it helps you feel better, according to the website Love Chips, a portion of chip shop chips contains less fat than a prawn mayonnaise sandwich. So... now you've decided to do your bit for the community and support our local fish & chip shops next week, which will you choose?

Burgess Hill doesn't have loads of fish & chip shops but it's quality that counts. When Burgesshillpeople asked the Twitter community (under @Burgesshillppl) which is their favourite, it was a tie between Jupps and Fishers in first place. We'll start with these two then...

Jupps is tucked away on the residential street West Street so this is where some local knowledge works wonders. All orders are cooked fresh to order and they state on their website 'you can have your fish cooked anyway you require it, fried, grilled, skinless, boneless or breaded.' They also work to the motto 'only sell what you would eat or give any of the family'. I suppose that's assuming you're fond of all your family members...What's more, they've moved with the times and have an informative website and can be followed on Twitter. And if you're having a party, bear in mind they can cater for up to 200 people. Rumour has it Steven Gerrard and Alex Curran had fish and chips at their wedding so there's an idea...

Fishers is just up from Burgess Hill Station at Keymer Parade. Again, the food is always cooked to order and is worth the wait (unless you phone your order through first that is but I'm yet to be that organised). A good time to catch up on local bargains in the Friday Ad I find. The staff are friendly and efficient.

Recently, I've discovered another fish & chip shop gem (and no, I don't eat them all the time - honestly!) tucked away on Maple Drive, called Marino's. I have only tried the chips here which couldn't be faulted and must give the fish a go sometime soon.

Other places in Burgess Hill where you can get fish & chips include Chans-Fish-Bar near Wivelsfield Station and Tim Ley Takeaway & Fish Bar.

So, where's your favourite chippie?

Chans at Wivelsfield station is the best; tasty, quick, clean and very close to my house!
