WSCC is planning to build 2 huge waste processing plants on beautiful greenfield sites at Hickstead and Goddards Green.
Clearly there is a need for waste processing capability, but there appears to have been a lack of proper public consultation, including discussing possible alternative locations, on preferably brownfield sites, with better access.
These new processing plants will mean a 60m + high chimney, producing pollutants and dioxins, incessant noise from concrete crushers and a dramatic increase in traffic congestion with 174 waste lorries per day over a 12 hour shift (one every 4 minutes).
An action group called 'No HAGGIS' (No to Hickstead and Goddards Green Incinerator Sites), has been formed, ww.no-haggis.co.uk and encourages people to write a letter to or email among others, the WSCC representative lionel.barnard@westsussex.gov.uk and our MP nicholas.soames.mp@parliament.uk ,before the deadline of the 14th of November 2011.
