Mid Sussex District Council have released statistics showing that crime in Mid Sussex has reduced by 33% over the past 5 years; a sign that the  Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) is succeeding in its aims. Overall, this reduction equates to a drop in incidents from 8093 to 5419, which means 2674 less crime victims.

CDRPs are a national initiative, giving responsibility for crime reduction to local authorities by them implementing multi-sector joint working, and were launched by the Home Office in 1998. Locally, Mid Sussex Council is one partner of the CDRP, alongside the police, probation service, health authorities, voluntary sector, local residents and businesses. Their combined efforts have lead to positive results in tackling crime around Mid Sussex.

According to the Community Safety Advisory Service, the role of CDRPs is to establish the types and levels of crime disorder locally through audit, consult widely with the public and to match their perception of crime to the CDRPs, and ultimately to devise strategies to tackle priority problems locally and monitor the effects of these strategies.

Examples of what Mid Sussex CDRP has done recently to tackle local issues include tackling anti social behaviour by providing educational sessions within schools and raising awareness of drink driving dangers amongst the public in the run-up to Christmas.

So, do these results reflect your own impressions of crime rates locally? Are you surprised by this reduction or is it what you would expect? It certainly appears to be good news for residents of Mid Sussex and hopefully the trend in crime reduction will continue.

Mmm...not sure. I would imagine it's reported crime otherwise I'm not sure how they would get the figures. Let's hope the force doesn't suffer cuts too badly. I have a friend who got into Sussex Police about three years ago and is still waiting for funding to be available for him to start training.

Is this reported crime or actual crime?, I for one have stopped going out at night in this area due to anti-social behaviour, My own personal experience of reporting crime to the local police force has left me feeling less than impressed, they didn't even come to my home to check out the crime or look for evidence they just gave me a crime number.

So I think people have lost their faith in this police force and just have stopped reporting crime and as usual their never around in the areas when their needed.
