Controlled Parking Zone proposal turned down

Proposals by West Sussex County Council for a controlled parking zone in
Burgess Hill have received the thumbs down from local residents after
55% of those who responded to consultation plans said they were against
the proposal, with 35% in favour. The proposal followed parking surveys
of off street parking that revealed significant high long term parking
probably due to commuter use in roads such as Chanctonbury Road,
Glendale Avenue, Lower Church Road, Norman Road, Slimbridge Road, St
John’s Road and Station Road. However the proposal was criticised for
not including some of the roads around Wivelsfield Station such as
Gordon Road and Gladstone Road where street parking can be a particular
problem. A number of residents also highlighted that parked vehicles,
particularly on bends, obstruct visibility and cause problems for large
vehicles to manoeuvre past them, although it has to be said that parked
vehicles also mean less opportunities for speeding in certain roads. See more here.

I can't see any new proposals on controlled parking zones, but new parking restrictions regarding yellow lines have recently been agreed for parts of Junction Road , and disc parking schemes for car parks in St Johns Park, Janes Lane and the Triangle to deter commuter parking are in the pipeline, as well as action on specific road junctions, specifically the Hammonds Ridge/London Road road crossing.

ReportI can't see anything new around the issue of a controlled parking zone in Burgess Hill happening but peicemeal proposals around additional yellow lines where appropriate, and disc parking for the car parks in St John's car park, Janes Lane and the Triangle which would seek to deter commuter car parking. Action to improve specific road junctions is also being pushed for by local councillors and we hope to see action on the London Road/Hammonds Ridge crossing soon.

ReportInteresting, thanks Simon. Will new proposals be submitted based on the feedback of residents do you know?
