West Sussex County Council and their highway contractor Balfour Beatty have unveiled plans to help keep traffic moving in cold conditions this winter. The council has welcomed 26 new gritters, which have all been tested during a staged 'operation snowflake' in the county.

The 23 gritters will each cover a separate route and there will be three spare gritters, should they be needed. West Sussex County Council have highlighted that these new gritters are advantageous because they are more efficient, use less salt and have GPS systems fitted.

In preparation for snow and ice that may come this winter, West Sussex County Council already has 10,000 tonnes of salt ready.

So, are we prepared enough? Is there anything else you think could help the county keep moving in freezing conditions?
