This week is the first ever Gas Safety Week and Mid Sussex District Council is encouraging Mid Sussex residents to be vigilant about the maintenance of gas appliances. It won't be long until the heating is up and running again and it's important safety is prioritised.

How safe is your gas?
The Gas Safe Register is behind Gas Safety Week and the aim is to increase people's awareness of gas safety this week. For starters, we're all encouraged to check our boiler is in safe working order. Some residents are eligible for free gas safety checks and need to check with their energy providers. You can see the criteria for these checks here.
The Council is reminding tenants of rented accommodation that it is the responsibility of their landlord to check gas safety annually. A certificate should be issued to tenants when these checks are carried out.
Home owners are informed that they should only use Gas Safe Registered engineers to carry out work and checks on gas appliances. It is important to check the engineer has a Gas Safe Register ID card. You can read more about what you should look out for on the MSDC website here.
So, here's wishing everyone a warm and safe winter.

Don't forget most energy suppliers allow you to get a free energy monitor for the home so that you can see what is using energy. A good way to help reduce the bills.
