Cycle routes around Burgess Hill

If you're making the most of the remaining lighter evenings, weekends or any other time of day and hopping on your bike, what is your favourite cycling route around Burgess Hill?

The South Downs Way is a great route to cycle either in part or over a few days
There are good bridleway routes off Cants Lane at the east of Burgess Hill, which then link you to Ditchling Common Country Park. This can all be done off road and can make a good circular route. If you want to then head further with a bit of road cycling, you can head down Spatham Lane which and pop out in Ditchling. Two options here - either cycle through Ditchling itself and back to Burgess Hill (perhaps via Garden Pride for some tea and cake or a drink in a Ditchling pub...) or turn left and head towards Plumpton (again has pubs) or towards Lewes. There are several bridleways coming off these roads should you want to go off road at any point.
Ordnance Survey Map number 122 includes Brighton and Hove, Lewes and Burgess Hill amongst other areas of Sussex and is ideal for planning different cycling routes.
If you want to stay really local to Burgess Hill, why not cycle around the Green Circle Network outlining the town? These bridleways are great for the whole family and there are lots of lovely places for a picnic along the way too.
If you're looking for an extreme fitness challenge, how about cycling up nearby Ditchling Beacon? Steep and windy, this is not for the faint hearted (or unfit) cyclist. It's a notorious challenge spot around the area for cyclists and is part of the London to Brighton bike route.
Or perhaps you have a good cycling route you can share here? There's nothing like varying the routes to keep it interesting...

There are indeed some beautiful cycling routes around Burgess Hill, we're very lucky living here. For family cycling I'd second the recommendation of the Green Circle circular route around the perimeter of Burgess Hill, most of it out in the countryside on bridleways, rarely ever on roads.
Well worth joining Green Circle; here are the directions and a map:

ReportYou are right, there are some lovely routes close to Burgess Hill, near Cants Lane. Having Ditchling and the South Downs close by provides us with a lovely route, though I normally get someone to give me a lift to the top!
